Last weekend, the Cal Sailing Team was thrilled to host our home regatta, Stoney Burke, at the
(previously unbeknownst to much of the team) Safe Harbor Marina Bay Yacht Harbor. Set just south of Richmond Yacht Club, the team’s new practice venue, Marina Bay boasted lots of amenities, nearby restaurants, and a nice launch area. While we didn’t spend a lot of time commuting to this regatta, we certainly spent a lot of time preparing for it – we towed our own boats and dollies from RYC as well as some charter boats all the way from TISC. It was, almost literally, all hands on deck: with the help of Renee and Will from RYC, Andrew Weber, Paul Maciel, and some friends of members on the team, we pulled off a great event!
That being said, the conditions were nothing if not challenging. Both Saturday and Sunday saw lots of light winds in the late morning and early afternoon, picking up a little bit by late afternoon but being shifty nonetheless. We had quite a few boats on the water, and it was some newbies’ first regatta!
On Saturday, 6 races were sailed in each division, and 3 additional races were sailed on Sunday. We’d like to give a special thanks to our race officers Nicolai, Vince, and Jess for helping bring everything together.
It was a pleasure to put on such a successful regatta! We loved seeing teams from all over the country come to this event and being able to show them our home in the East Bay. Many of the visiting teams said they had a great experience at the venue, and we received a lot of positive feedback about our team!
